Moyo appointed new GM of MMCZ

The Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ), a government entity responsible for marketing Zimbabwe’s minerals , excluding gold and silver, which fall under the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s purview,  has appointed Dr. Nomusa Moyo as its new General Manager, effective immediately.

Dr. Moyo, who has been serving as the Acting General Manager since July 2023, officially takes on the role after almost two years of experience in the interim position.

In a statement, the MMCZ Board confirmed the appointment, citing Dr. Moyo’s exceptional leadership and significant contributions during her tenure as Acting General Manager. MMCZ Board Chairman, Jemister Chininga, expressed strong confidence in Dr. Moyo’s capabilities, noting her extensive experience and proven leadership skills.

“Dr. Moyo has been at the helm of the Corporation as Acting General Manager since July 2023, accumulating two years of acting experience in the role. This experience has undoubtedly inspired the Board’s confidence in her ability to lead MMCZ forward,” Chininga said.

As General Manager, Dr. Moyo is expected to steer MMCZ toward maximizing returns for all stakeholders, through efficient management of mineral resources and effective marketing strategies.

The Board emphasized that her leadership would be crucial in enhancing the corporation’s operational efficiency, while fostering strong, productive relationships with key stakeholders and industry partners.

Chininga highlighted that Dr. Moyo’s appointment comes at a time when the corporation is seeking to further solidify its role as a key player in Zimbabwe’s mining sector.

He added that the Board believes her vast experience will provide the leadership needed to strengthen MMCZ’s operations and build on the organization’s past successes.

“We are confident that Dr. Moyo’s leadership and expertise will guide the Corporation towards continued success, ensuring the creation of value for all stakeholders involved. Her leadership will be instrumental in the growth and operational success of MMCZ,” Chininga stated.

Dr. Moyo brings with her an impressive 24-year career in public entities, which includes her previous roles at the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) and Grain Marketing Board (GMB). She has been with MMCZ since December 2009 and has played a pivotal role in various capacities within the corporation. Over the years, she has accumulated a wealth of experience in corporate governance, serving on numerous boards of both public and private institutions.

Her expertise in corporate governance is widely recognized, with Dr. Moyo having served as a writer, lecturer, and presenter at both local and international forums.

The Board emphasized that her strong foundation in governance would be critical in maintaining MMCZ’s reputation for integrity and transparency as it continues to grow in the competitive global minerals market.

Dr. Moyo’s appointment marks a significant milestone for MMCZ as it continues to evolve as a key player in Zimbabwe’s mineral resources sector.
