Mental health key in mining sector

Mining giant, Kuvimba Mining House (KMH) recently launched the Wellness Beyond Generations campaign to comprehend a fitness programme aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the group’s employees and their communities.
Company Human Resources Manager Pelle Karengesha said the initiative comes as a recognition of a mentally fit employee being a vital pillar within the organization and coincided with the World Mental Health Day commemorated in October annually.
Mental health has affected mainly workers and billions of people across the globe due to several factors.
“We want to make sure our employees are taken good care of,” Karengesha said.
She said taking good care of an employee stands as guarantee for a productive human resource who fits into the company culture of production.
Kuvimba Mining House runs several mining firms including Bindura Nickel Mine in Mashonaland Central province, Shamva Gold Mine, Sandawana Mines in the Midlands province, Ziscosteel, ZimAlloys among others and employees thousands of workers.
Mental health issues at work, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is costly at work and companies end up losing millions of dollars in potential revenue.
Kuvimba Mining House compliance Officer Amanda Mudzingwa said there are a number of mental health issues associated with the mining sector hence the innitiative was critical for the company to engage in.
