There was a huge turnout at the ZiFM Stereo old school party held at the up market club, The Place, in the city of Bulawayo last week on Friday.

ZiFM’s Disc jockeys (DJs) Kimble Rogers and Tony Friday did not disappoint.

It was a night filled with old school vibes as revellers thronged the up market club to dance to some popular 80s R&B, hip hop and some ragga music.

Bulawayo-based DJs Babongile Sikhonjwa, Mark Mavusani, Emity Smooth and Phat Joe warmed up the dance floor with some kwaito and South African pop which is very popular with revellers in the City of Kings and Queens.

Kwaito Tunes from Mdu Masilela, Joe Nina and Trompies also kept the mature crowd on their feet.

Babongile,  a socialite, comedian and a former radio presenter with Skyze Metro, a Bulawayo based regional radio station evoked memories when he played some Lovemore Majaivana tunes.

By the time Tony Friday took over with some old school ragga the crowd was already in the party mood and they were on their feet as the veteran disc jockey transitioned from one genre to another.

The old timers kept asking for more.

When Kimble, aka Double K, took over, the dance floor was already exploding and he read the mood of the revellers very well, and kept pumping some old school South African house, Pop and Kwaito music.

Due to its close proximity to South Africa, most of the party goers in Bulawayo enjoy music from South Africa.

ZiFM Stereo breakfast presenter on The Ignition, Nomalanga Nyathi who was the show host said she was impressed by the turnout in Bulawayo.

“Bulawayo showed up and as a station we have a lot of listeners from Bulawayo. The Old School parties are being used so that listeners can get to meet and interact with some of the personalities. It is also time we get to meet with some corporate executives outside our offices,” Nomalanga said.

ZiFM Stereo, a unit of AB Communications, which also operates Business Times98.4 Midlands FM in Gweru, Hevoi in Masvingo, TruckAds and Mighty Movies,  hosts the Old School parties at the end of every month and they will be taken to every major city in the country.
