The country’s largest brewer, Delta Corporation, last week held a huge send-off cocktail party for the University of Zimbabwe, the Enactus Zimbabwe National Champion, at its headquarters in Borrowdale, in the capital Harare .
The send-off came as the team prepared to depart for the Enactus World Cup Ceremony that will be in Astana Kazakhstan from the 1st to 4th of October 2024.
The University of Zimbabwe was crowned at the local Enactus Zimbabwe National Competition, which was held in July at the Celebration Centre with over 250 delegates in attendance.
The Enactus World Cup is a global convergence of innovative minds and young social innovators drawn from 35 countries.
The event also brings together leading business leaders and academics who will gather in Astana a city as vibrant as ideas from young minds that will be celebrated this year.
The Enactus World Cup offers a unique platform for networking with global leaders and top executives. Past events have been graced by distinguished guests such as the former United States of America secretary of state Ms. Condoleezza Rice and former African Union Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, underscoring the high calibre of participants and speakers involved.
University of Zimbabwe Project Highlights: The University of Zimbabwe is implementing an environmental sustainability initiative titled Aqua Flora which aims to address the infestation of Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) in Zimbabwean water bodies while simultaneously capitalizing on opportunities in the Zimbabwean furniture industry.
The intervention ropes in responsible government bodies – the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, the Environmental Management Agency, and ZIMPARKS, – the local Waterfalls-Mukuvisi River, and Lake Chivero community in the removal of Water Hyacinth. Once the Water Hyacinth has been collected, it is processed to produce powder which is then further processed with a binding agent, placed into moulds of different sizes to produce high quality and lightweight Hydra boards with various applications in furniture production depending on the size of the mould and thickness of the board.
