The adoption of technology has the potential to transform Zimbabwe’s economy by fostering innovation, increasing efficiency, and driving productivity across sectors, a Cabinet Minister has said.
Speaking at the 2024 Zimbabwe ICT Excellence Awards, held on Thursday in the capital Harare, Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, emphasised the transformative power of technological excellence in improving service delivery and achieving national development goals.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services in partnership with Business Times, a market leader in business, financial and economic reportage.
“These awards, held for the first time since 2014, honor superior performance and quality that fuels innovation across various sectors,” Minister Mavetera said.
“In today’s modern society, technology plays a fundamental role in driving transformation across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and finance.
Recognizing this excellence not only motivates professionals to enhance their skills and solutions but also highlights the importance of technology in improving lives and boosting economic growth.

Echoing this sentiment, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe described technology as the engine for Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
“The future of Zimbabwe and the global economy lies in technology,” Minister Kazembe stated.
“It is up to the innovators in this room to transform the nation through creativity and cutting-edge solutions. The government remains committed to fostering innovation and excellence in the ICT sector.”
Minister Kazembe also praised the awards for honoring the visionaries shaping Zimbabwe’s digital future.
“This ceremony is more than just recognition; it’s about celebrating the trailblazers who are redefining our digital landscape,” he said.
Minister Mavetera further underscored the need to reward exceptional performance, noting that such recognition cultivates a culture of continuous improvement in both public and private sectors.
