Opposition LEAD leader Linda Masarira (pictured) says the Harare Central requires a complete overhaul and the task must be given to someone capable.

Masarira will be contesting in the March 26 by-election alongside ZANU-PF’s  Loice Magweba, Lead President Linda Masarira and Murisi Zwizwai representing the Citizens Coalition for Change for Harare Central constituency.

She told Business Times that previous experiences have shown that the electorate go for political party clout than key person who can deliver.

Asked on her chances, Masarira said: “It is 50/50 because we have a larger part of the electorate that just vote for a candidate that they don’t know or know what they will do, we saw this in 2018 and the person who won the Harare Central Murisi Zwizwai never went on the ground to campaign, never spoke to the people but he still won the election because people voted because he was Chamisa’s candidate and the same could happen on the 26th of March.”

“My message to the people of Harare Central Constituency is that, it is okay to like your president and it is also okay to vote for a candidate who will go and represent you and the needs of the constituency and all that you need to ensure social justice in the constituency.”

Masarira who is an MDC-T former spokesperson said one of the areas she will push in Parliament is that labour laws are followed to the letter.

“I will be advocating and pushing for decent salaries, decent pension payouts and ensuring that all workers in the constituency are remunerated properly because one of the major challenges we have socially in this country is labour injustice and lack of respect for the tenets of the Labour Act,” she said.

She added that the health care system in the constituency must be looked into and issues affecting sector will be addressed if she is given the mandate on the March 26.

“As you are aware, we only have three clinics in Harare Central, and they cannot service and cater for the population of the constituency that is in excess of one hundred thousand people, so there is need to push for the construction of more clinics in the constituency within 5-10km radius so that everyone has access to affordable healthcare services,” said Masarira.

One of her plans if voted into office would be the development of rehabilitation centres for drug abusers and the creation facilities that will empower rehabilitated persons so that they go back into the society as better people.

The Harare Central Constituency National Assembly seat fell vacant when Murisi Zwizwai was recalled from Parliament by the MDC-T.
