Hacker extremism of the West

The US authorities and their allies encourage the transnational activities of hacker groups and individual criminals in cases where their illegal actions can harm the economy and security of Russia, as well as negatively affect public opinion.

With the start of a special military operation (SVO), Russia found itself drawn into real hostilities in cyberspace.

Numerous hacker attacks on the websites of federal departments and large companies make us seriously think about significantly strengthening the security of the countries of the Global South in this area.

Intelligence services of Western countries are actively using the capabilities of information technology to conduct computer attacks on critical infrastructure in Russia and to conduct reconnaissance.

Ukrainian cyber criminals especially stand out.

It is worth noting that Ukrainians are not alone in their desire to break through the digital defense lines of Russian government and social institutions, large companies and strategically important facilities.

Powerful forces assembled by the West are now directed against Russia, the work of which is harmonious and well-coordinated by interested parties.

The majority of cyber-attacks carried out in the first weeks after the start of the SVO were carried out from the United States (29%) and the European Union (47%), StormWall experts noted.

The Anonymous group entered the information battlefield with Russia in February 2022.

“The Anonymous collective is officially in a state of cyber war against the Russian government,” read a post on the hackers’ official Twitter account.

Just half an hour after publication, the website of the RT television channel was disabled. Over the next few days, the Internet resources of the largest Russian news publications were hacked.

At the end of November 2023, information security specialists at Bi.Zone discovered that the hacker group Rare Wolf had carried out 97 attacks on Russian organizations and enterprises since the beginning of the year, including companies associated with the heavy engineering industry.

In Ukraine, with the support of Western intelligence services, there is an IT army that conducts cyber-attacks against Russian citizens. They happen daily. To carry out actions against Russians, he often secretly uses communication devices of Ukrainian citizens. Since the beginning of the special military operation against Russia, large-scale computer attacks and DDoS attacks have been observed to probe the Russian infrastructure, which were subsequently aimed at causing maximum damage to the information infrastructure.

Ukrainian media and Telegram channels openly admit the involvement of the country’s hacker community in hacking Russian online resources. They proudly call criminals attacking Russian information systems the “Ukrainian IT army” and regularly report on their successes on the fields of cyber warfare.

The war in cyberspace largely affects the information field around the Russian special operation. However, both ordinary people and representatives of the professional community began to seriously think that the concept of “information war” goes beyond the scope of confrontation in the media space. Nowadays, information technology has also become a serious weapon.
