Prominent gold dealer, Spencer Tshuma, will tomorrow contest in the ZANU-PF primary elections in Gokwe- Kabuyuni constituency as he aspires to be the legislator.

The seat was left vacant following the death of ZANU-PF legislator, Leonard Chikomba, in a car accident in May this year.

Chikomba was returning from a ZANU-PF meeting in Gweru when he was involved in a car accident.

Tshuma is confident of winning the primary election ahead of five other ZANU PF candidates vying for the post.

He will battle it out against a local university lecturer Lyton Ncube, Jabulani Mandla, Manager Mkuli, Tapera Nyoni, Paradzai Tagwireyi, who have also successfully submitted their curriculum vitaes to the party’s Provincial Coordinating Committee.

Speaking to Business Times Tshuma says victory was certain as he was undertaking projects to address daily challenges which people in Gokwe-Kabuyuni were facing.

“I am very optimistic that I am going to win these primary elections and be the next Member of Parliament for this constituency. I promise members that I will not fail them in doing my duties. I am using the strategy of consulting the people on their challenges and we are implementing solutions,” Tshuma said.

He added: “I have projects running in the constituency, and we finished rehabilitation of Savara Dam in Siyamuchimbo Ward 31. Other dams on the cards are in Ward 2 in Chitekete. And in Ward 5 Chimhondoro we drilled a borehole.

“We have started constructing dip tanks in all districts while road maintenance is currently underway.

“To show that people in the constituency are witnessing my development, 10 Citizen for Coalition Change members have defected to ZANU PF.”

ZANU PF Midlands provincial spokesperson, Simbarashe Tumburayi said the party was geared for the by-elections slated for August 27.

“We met as the provincial elections directorate to vet our aspiring candidates here in Gokwe. The process went well and we are geared for the primary elections which will be held on Friday (tomorrow).

“We want to assure the President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) that we will retain the seat as we also managed to successfully hold some blitz in all the districts in Gokwe North,” Tumburayi said.

ZANU PF Midlands provincial chairman, Senator Larry Mavhima implored party members to put their hands on the deck and ensure the party’s victory ahead of the by-elections.
