Fire razes Chipinge motor spare parts shop
TENDAI MUSWERA IN CHIPINGE
A Chipinge businessman Wilbert Zvawanda is counting his losses after a fired burnt down his recently renovated motor spare parts shop last week.
The inferno burnt Sidar Corner shop and nothing was recovered after the Chipinge Town Council’s fire brigade arrived at the scene two hours later.
When they eventually arrived, they failed to put out the fire.
Chipinge residents and business representatives spokesperson, Amato Rungano had no kind words for the fire brigade.
“We have noted with serious concern that Chipinge Town Council has no commitment to protect residents’ properties from fire outbreaks.
“The absence of a functional fire tender clearly speaks volumes of the Council’s unwillingness to deal with fire outbreaks in Chipinge Town,” Rungano said.
“It then boggles the mind of a resident and defies simple logic why Council is charging residents fire levy when it has no capacity to combat fire outbreaks.
“The fire brigade took a long time to arrive at the scene. When they arrived they had no capacity to put off the inferno.”
He said the fire could have been extinguished if Council had a functional fire tender.
“The outbreak took place in the central business district, a stone’s throw away from Council offices. It took the brigade about two hours for them to act albeit with no capacity. It is disheartening to note that to this end, the burnt places have not been repaired and the end result is a burnt town as opposed to a developing town.”
