ET plans second frequency from Hre

BUSINESS REPORTER
Africa’s largest carrier, Ethiopian Airlines (ET), will introduce a second frequency on the Harare-Addis Ababa route from October 31 amid growing demand in a vote of confidence for Zimbabwe as a destination.
The second frequency will be on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the airline said.
The airline flies daily from Harare to Addis Ababa and has four weekly flights to Victoria Falls.
The introduction of a second frequency from Harare comes as a boost as Zimbabwe seeks to grow the tourism sector to US$5bn by 2025 from under US$2bn on the back incentives, the growth in arrivals and the domestic market, among others.
It also comes amid interest from airlines that are adding Zimbabwe as they expand their route networks.
Lufthansa Group leisure airline, Eurowings Discover, began three weekly flights from Frankfurt to Victoria Falls in March.
In August, Airlink launched a daily service between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg.
Last month, Air Tanzania introduced the Dar es Salaam-Harare-Lusaka route.
ET has cemented its relations with a number of African countries. It was the last airline standing, delivering Covid-19 vaccines and personal protective equipment when other airlines grounded their flights during the pandemic-driven global lockdown.
The airline was recently appointed the official international carrier for the Sanganai/Hlanganani expo, which runs from October 13 to 15 in Bulawayo.
The award winning airline is to have its debut flight from Addis Ababa to Bulawayo on October 30.
The airline will have four weekly flights to Bulawayo.
The route will be operated as a triangular route from Addis Ababa – Victoria Falls – Bulawayo – Addis Ababa.
