President Emmerson Mnangagwa is today expected to  officially commission the oxygen processing plant, located near Feruka Oil Refinery in Mutare.

The development comes after Mnangagwa last week failed to officially open the plant at the 11th hour due to bad weather.

The plant was established by Verify Engineering in partnership with the Harare Institute of Technology.

The commissioning was confirmed by officials at the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Manicaland Provincial offices.

The medical oxygen and industrial gas plant at Feruka is expected to supply  the domestic needs and have more for the export market.

Verify Engineering is a wholly State owned company, whose products would sustain the requirement and needs for hospital oxygen for patients in intensive care and other areas such Covid-19 patients.

The setting up of the plant was mooted by the government in 2005 though it was delayed in completion due to the unavailability of funding.

Verify Engineering has since acquired 5 000 gas cylinders with another same number of gas containers expected later.
