The CMCOMMS logisticians practitioner training programme has been recognised by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe for its capacity building initiatives in the medical logistics space.

In a letter written to Wilson Chandomba the managing consultant, MCAZ director general Richard Rukwata hailed CMCOMMS for the role played in the pharmaceutical industry over the years.

“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise your positive contribution over the years in quality assurance within the pharmaceutical industry of Zimbabwe.

Your active involvement in championing adherence to Good Practices in the supply chain of medicinal products has strengthened quality assurance efforts through the capacitation and training of personnel involved in the supply chain of these products,” reads part of the letter. Rukwata also acknowledged Chandomba’s input in the revision of the localised Good Storage and Distribution Practises of July 2021 which are applicable to all parties in the supply chain.

To date the CMCOMMS programme has trained over 300 professionals who were all awarded competence certificates in 2 cohorts this year alone.

With Zimbabwe ranking 152 out of 160 countries on the World Bank global logistics index the aim of the training is to improve the ranking through providing a practical and competence based medical logistics training experience focused on the current constraints in local logistics space.

Logisticians plays a key role in the pharmaceutical system as they ensure that medicines accessible, affordable and are of good quality through handling.

Heading into 2023 Chandomba said CMCOMMS will be more aggressive in its capacity building to cover the gap.

“In the year 2023 we will create more competence-based content on the World Bank Logistics performance indicators in relation to medical products.

We will also launch the training programme in the SADC region first and then Sub Saharan Africa,” he said.

Chandomba is an expert in supply chain and quality assurance with over 24 years of experience supporting various businesses.
