CCC Bulawayo councillor promises clinic
TENDAI BHEBE IN BULAWAYO
Newly-elected Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) councillor for Bulawayo Ward 26, Mpumelelo Moyo has promised to build a clinic in Emganwini high density suburb as residents are currently walking long distances to access health facilities.
Moyo, alongside seven other Bulawayo councillors were sworn in last week.
“The challenge that we have is that in Emganwini we do not have city council health facilities.
“So currently there’s a private hospital that is expensive meaning the majority of our people cannot afford it.
“I am really touched that elders carrying babies walk longer distances in search of health care facilities in the neighbouring suburbs like Nketa or Nkulumane,” Moyo said.
He added: “As a leader I think this is the first thing we should address. Other challenges will be addressed at the consultative meetings that we will have with the residents.”
Council clinics and government hospitals have seen a huge decrease in the number of nursing staff due to poor remuneration and brain drain.
Bulawayo City Council runs 19 clinics and they are operating with staffing levels of between 49% and 61%.
