Cattle succumb to diseases in Chipinge
TENDAI MUSWERA IN CHIPINGE
Villagers in Chibuwe, Chipinge district in Manicaland Province are losing cattle due to various diseases, leaving them without the much-needed draught power.
There are now fears the villagers could be exposed to poisonous meat which is sold to them without proper verification on what could have killed the cattle in the area.
“Cattle are dying in the village and we don’t know the cause of these sudden deaths,” Ward 20 councillor, Charles Mughidho, said.
He added: “Now villagers are buying these cattle for home consumption and as a community we don’t know if it’s safe or not.”
A villager who requested anonymity said the community was scared some poisonous meat could be sold to people.
Efforts to get a comment from the veterinary department were futile.
Experts told Business Times that villagers should not eat the cattle that succumbed to diseases. They said these should be handed over to the veterinary office so that they would be able to know the causes of the sudden death.
