Residents in Bulawayo have welcomed the proposed renaming of one of the city’s roads after Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta saying it will be an honour for the city as he is a respectable head of State.
President Kenyatta is expected to officially open the country’s premier trade showcase, the Zimbabwe international Trade Fair set for this month in Bulawayo.
“As residents of Bulawayo, it will be an honour to the city to have the Kenyan President coming down and having his foot on the soil of Bulawayo,” the Bulawayo Residents Association chairman, Winos Dube said.
He added: “We respect all our African leaders. We honour them. It will be an honour for Bulawayo to have such a road because we believe we will be making it easy for more investors especially from Kenya because they will know in Zimbabwe there is a road named after their president.
“They will be motivated to come and invest which will be good for the city
It’s a move that we don’t see anything wrong with that.
He urged community leaders to make sure that residents exercise discipline.
“We will be having our Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, a very big trade event happening here in the city. I would like to send a message as the leadership of the residents for people to exercise more discipline. They would want to see a disciplined city.
“We want to demonstrate that all our visitors who will be coming down here in Bulawayo must really enjoy the hospitality that we will demonstrate. To all residents of this city, we are to have this big gathering here in the city which is an honour to the city, honour to our region. We need to demonstrate a higher level of Ubuntu,” he said.
