Bus shootings: SA police launches manhunt

Police in South Africa have launched a manhunt for yet unknown assailants who shot dead two women during an armed robbery in a Zimbabwean bound bus on Thursday.

Two women were shot dead and a third seriously injured when three armed men attacked the bus in the Bela-Bela area of Limpopo Province.

“We have launched a manhunt for the suspect(s) but we have not been able to arrest anyone,” Limpopo provincial spokesperson for the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo told Business Times on Friday.

“Our investigations are continuing. We made a call for anyone with information to come forward so that we apprehend the criminal(s). The investigations continue,” he said.

He said the police will work to ensure the safety of travellers along the major roads that lead not only to Zimbabwe but other countries in the SADC region.

“Obviously criminals are opportunistic so we need the support of motorists to be vigilant and always on the look-out of any suspicious scenes and contact the nearest police station.”

“I think those using the roads should plan their trips accordingly and definitely try to travel during the day because there are incidents where people put spikes on the road so that when you use that road you experience a tyre puncture and when you stop to fix your wheel then the criminals pounce on you.”
