Bleak Christmas for Chivi residents

Residents at Chivi Growth Point in Masvingo Province have projected a bleak Christmas this year as prices of basic commodities continue to skyrocket, Business Times can report.

The prices, they said, have gone beyond the reach of many.

“As you can see here we are surviving on selling these clothes here. People do not have money. So, that on its own is a testimony that we are going to have a bleak Christmas this year,” said Shupikai Zhou, who sells clothes in the growth point.

Another female vendor , who preferred anonymity  said: “Yester year I used to plan for Christmas as my business used to do well but right now things are tight. Shops are having their prices revised up which obviously will affect our celebrations,” she said.

The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe Masvingo regional manager Ndumiso Mgutshini encouraged consumers to shop around comparing prices as that will help in saving money.

“As we approach the festive season we observe that retailers have begun advertising their goods and services, we encourage members of the public to shop around comparing prices and quality of products before buying and then lastly buy as this can save money,” Mgutshini told Business Times.
