BancABC Zimbabwe has publicly endorsed its executive, Isaiah Mupfurutsa, in his bid to become the next Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairman—throwing the weight of one of the country’s leading financial institutions behind a candidate it describes as “poised, proven, and passionate.”
Mupfurutsa, who also chairs Premier Soccer League side Simba Bhora, will face stiff competition from three other contenders in the hotly contested election set for July 25. His rivals include FC Platinum chairman Dumisani Sisale, Leonard Musariri of Ngezi Platinum, and Masimba Chihohwa of Manica Diamonds.
The elections will be conducted under the provisions of the ZIFA Electoral Code, with the winner automatically earning a seat on the ZIFA executive committee—a powerful platform shaping the direction of Zimbabwean football.
In a public show of support, BancABC issued a statement via its official Facebook page, praising Mupfurutsa’s leadership qualities both in the boardroom and in football administration.
“Poised. Proven. Passionate. Isaiah Mupfurutsa isn’t just a contender for the Premier Soccer League Chairmanship — he’s a visionary with the discipline, drive, and leadership we know well at BancABC Zimbabwe. We’re proud to stand behind one of our own as he steps up to shape the future of the beautiful game,” the bank said.
Mupfurutsa, a seasoned administrator, has been credited with transforming Simba Bhora into one of the rising forces in Zimbabwean football. His campaign is built around professionalising the league, improving club licensing, enhancing player welfare, and promoting financial transparency.
While the race for the PSL chairmanship is expected to be tightly contested, one position is already settled: Highlanders FC chairman Kennedy Mhlophe has been confirmed as the league’s vice chairman-elect after running unopposed.
Observers say this year’s PSL elections are a litmus test for the league’s direction and governance amid growing calls for reform and commercial viability. The incoming chairman is expected to tackle pressing issues such as fixture congestion, broadcast rights, sponsorship expansion, and club infrastructure development.
Mupfurutsa’s endorsement by a major corporate player adds a new dimension to the race, positioning him not just as a football administrator but as a candidate with proven business acumen and backing.
The PSL election results will reverberate well beyond the pitch—shaping how the domestic game is run and how it aligns with global football trends.
As the countdown to election day begins, all eyes are on the four candidates vying for the top post in Zimbabwean club football. But with corporate backing, a strong football pedigree, and administrative experience, Mupfurutsa’s bid has gained serious momentum.
