‘Agric shows offer opportunity for farmers’

The Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union president, Shadreck Makombe, has urged farmers to participate in exhibition shows to further their farming knowledge.
Makombe, who spoke to Business Times at the just ended Midlands Agricultural Show in Gweru, said exhibitions are also an opportunity for farmers to exchange experience and knowledge in order to increase their production capacity.
“Exhibitions are a good initiative especially for farmers as it is during such programmes that they can learn about various ways of boosting their farming businesses.
“In light of this, I therefore call upon all the farmers in the country to prioritise such events as they are good for their businesses as they have a potential of increasing production capacity,” Makombe said.
He said farmers also get the opportunity to network and get to know about different farming methods being carried out in other parts of the country.
“It’s good for farmers to have knowledge even beyond their speciality so that they appreciate the farming sector better,” Makombe said. He said some farmers in the country have not been recording good yields due to lack of knowledge, buttressing the need for them to participate in exhibitions as “it is only in these events that they get to learn a number of measures that they can put in place to increase their yields”.
