African Sun Limited will shut down the iconic Elephant Hills Resort in Victoria Falls in November 2026 to pave the way for an ambitious 18-month refurbishment and rebranding programme, with the revamped property scheduled to reopen in the second quarter of 2028.
The multi-million-dollar overhaul—one of the most significant hospitality investments in the resort city in recent years, aims to elevate the landmark hotel into a world-class destination for both leisure travellers and the lucrative MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) market.
“The multi-million-dollar project is not just a renovation; it is the continuation of a journey to establish a stronger, more competitive African Sun footprint within Zimbabwe’s hospitality landscape, particularly within the bucket-list destination of Victoria Falls. The project will enhance African Sun’s market appeal and strengthen its global presence by branding the property with an acclaimed international operator,” the company said..
African Sun said the refurbishment will blend the essence of Victoria Falls and Zimbabwean culture with international-standard amenities and best-in-class facilities.
Alongside the hotel upgrade, the company will undertake a major renovation of the Elephant Hills Golf Course, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s drive to expand its sports and recreational tourism offerings.
“Throughout the renovation period, African Sun will maintain active engagement with regulators, suppliers, and the trade, regularly updating industry partners to facilitate clear communication and a smooth transition in the months ahead,” the group added.
Upon completion, guests can expect a reimagined resort with global appeal, backed by an internationally acclaimed operator.
Commenting on the redevelopment, African Sun Chief Executive Officer Laurie Ward said, “It’s time to refurbish the jewel in our crown.”
The simultaneous upgrade of the hotel and its legendary golf course, African Sun said, is “in support of Zimbabwe’s thrust towards enhanced sports and recreational tourism within the Victoria Falls region.”
